AOS Overview

There are two common scenarios for the application of Advanced Orbiting Systems (AOS) space data links:
Scenario 1: AOS for both telemetry and telecommand
Scenario 2: AOS on the telemetry downlink, Packet Telecommand on the uplink

AOS Scenarios

In scenario 2, the AOS link carries control information from the Packet Telecommand decoder to the Packet Telecommand encoder. The control information in the form of a Communications Link Control Word (CLCW) is carried in the Operational Control Field (OCF) of AOS Transfer Frames.

AOS space data links can also be used for space-to-space applications.

The AOS Encoder is part of the sending end of an AOS spacecraft communications system.  It takes telemetry or telecommand data and formats them into AOS frames for transmission on the AOS link.  When the AOS frames reach the receiving end, they are processed by the AOS Decoder to extract the data.

The AOS standard is defined by the CCSDS recommendations.  Our AOS Encoder Shell and AOS Decoder Shell support the standard.
