AOS Overview

In this typical scenario for an Advanced Orbiting Systems (AOS) space data link:

• The AOS downlink carries high-speed telemetry data.
• The AOS downlink also carries control information from the Telecommand decoder in space to the Telecommand encoder on the ground.  The control information consists of Communications Link Control Words (CLCWs) carried in the Operational Control Field (OCF) of AOS Transfer Frames.

AOS space data links can also be used for the uplink and for space-to-space applications.

The AOS Encoder is part of the sending end of an AOS spacecraft communications system.  It takes telemetry or telecommand data and formats them into a data stream for transmission on the AOS link.  When the data stream reaches the receiving end, it is processed by the AOS Decoder to extract the data.

The AOS Space Data Link Protocol is defined by the CCSDS recommended standard.  Our AOS Encoder Shell and AOS Decoder Shell support the standard.
